Timeline for Selection (Australian Applicants)

January Applications OPEN
July Applications CLOSE
August/September/October Interviews – Shortlisted candidates must be available for interview. Unavailable applicants will not be considered further. Applicants will be advised at least one week prior to the interview dates.
October/November The National Selection Committee (Australia) reviews applications that have been recommended by the Selection Committees.
December  All Scholarship applicants are notified of the selection outcomes
February Orientation Program and Gala Presentation Dinner in Canberra
August – May
 Fulbright Scholarships are to be commenced in the U.S. academic year following selection. Programs cannot be deferred and must be undertaken between August and May of the following year.

Timeline for Selection (U.S. Applicants)

February/March March- U.S. Scholar applications OPEN; April – U.S. Student applications OPEN
August – October September- U.S. Scholar applications CLOSE; October- U.S. Student applications CLOSE
October – December Peer Review Committees (Scholars) evaluate scholar applications from October to November. National Screening Committees (Students) undertaken from November to December to evaluate student applications.
December – March
 All Scholar applicants notified by December 31 as to whether or not their application has been recommended for further consideration in the host country. Shortlisted Scholar candidates will be interviewed via Zoom by the Australian Commission from December through February. All Student applicants notified by January 31 as to whether or not their application has been recommended for further consideration in the host country. Shortlisted Student candidates will be interviewed via Zoom by the Australian Commission from January through March.
February – June All recommended candidates are forwarded to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for approval from February to June. IIE notifies candidates whether they have been selected to receive a Fulbright award.
June onward Award details are finalised. Grants are to be commenced the next January/February in line with the Australian academic year and in order to attend the Orientation Program and Presentation events. Grants may commence earlier on a case-by-case basis with the Commission’s approval.
